What do I need to know?
Although the walks are intended for a variety of fitness levels, participants should take particular notice of the distance, ascent and degree of difficulty to judge whether a particular walk is suitable for them. If in doubt, contact Bill or Jan.
What should I wear?
It is strongly recommended that participants wear appropriate footwear (generally lightweight trekking boots are best) and waterproof and cold weather clothing (preferably layers) as the weather can change quickly in the mountains.
NB. Walk leaders may turn away participants if they are not suitably attired.
Do I need anything else?
You should bring a packed lunch and sufficient water/ other liquid. A small first aid kit is also useful.
Insurance
It is essential that participants take out appropriate insurance. Since the walks are undertaken on a "without-fee" basis participants do so at their own risk and whilst every effort is taken to ensure group safety during these walks and the chance of accidents limited the costs of a helicopter rescue, should one be required, make the premiums very economic. Details of a suitable policy can be found in the "links" page.
Simple Rules
Whilst walking it is essential that participants follow the directions of the Walk leader and do not deviate from the selected route.
Walkers should always remain behind the Walk leader unless instructed otherwise.
If an unscheduled stop is required (comfort break/photo stop, etc) the Walk leader or designated sweeper must be informed.
Please respect the countryside and follow the country code-"Take only photos and leave only footprints"
How do I join the group
Whilst the group is very informal and you could just turn-up it is advisable, particularly if you are joining us for the first time, to contact either myself or Jan beforehand. We can at the same time answer any questions you may have about the walks.
